Today, 31st August 2009 is my first post since taking this course "Brunei Environment Appreciation Community Action." Base on today`s work, Dr Irene brought a movie, some sort of a Chinese movie call "Mountain Patrol Kekexili". By watching this movie, i can learn the aspect and how to appreciate environment. So we all watched with full of concentration and note down every significant points.
Generally speaking, this story is about a group of people which their culture is known as Tibetan who wants to protect the natural environment. From watching this movie, there are a lot of violence done by the hunters in killing the antelope. The land is dry in China and barely any vegetation available. Many people especially hunters kill the antelopes without restrictions and most of the antelope skins were ripped off. Ritai is the leader of the vigilantes who, despite poverty and the lack of any government support, roam the land to protect the endangered Tibetan antelope from extinction.
Furthermore, a reporter from Beijing known as Gayu came over ritai`s village to make a report regarding the environments and landscape which became deteriorated as time pass by. In ritai`s village, antelope`s skins were found layed off on the surface. This skins from my opinion, contradicts with the increase in economy where skins that were ripped off being export in order to produce surplus or capital.Nevertheless, their lifestyles are far different compare to nowadays because in this movie, the society eat fresh meat as soon as they capture their prey such as rabbits.
Moreover, the group of Tibetan also sang a song and dance for "white temple" as a part of their culture and beliefs. When Ritai`s group began their journey to the breeding ground of the antelope, unfortunately most of the antelope found dead and only skeletons left on the surface after being eaten by crows. Ritai`s gone mad and want to arrest the hunters who responsible for killing the antelope. The skeletons then were burnt by them .So they continued their journey. Next, they found two guys doing illegal fishing without permit. Ritai`s group arrested them for doing such illegal activity.
On the next day, Ritai`s group and the reporter walked across Yak Valley which were full of sand storms consisting huge gale of winds. The environment in Yak Valley is different, hardly for them to see the route. Ritai found a car nearby and went approached it. He found a fur of the antelope and he believe the poachers were there not long ago. On the rocky surfaces, they finally found a group of people whom Ritai believe were poachers who killed his antelope. He arrested them and urged to tell him who killed his antelope.
The long journey didn`t really worth it because they are out of rations, fuels and later decided to let the arrested group go. Some of ritai`s men were allowed to go too, and treat the injuries they had during a long journey. So now, only 2 men`s left including Ritai. He believed the poachers were nearer. The were heavy storms when Ritai woke up after taking a nap, the environment turned deteriorated and hardly for them to see the way out.On the other hand, Ritai`s fren was sunk and trapped by a quicksand. A lot of people died.
At last, Ritai found a group of poachers with arms.He asked the leader to stop killing the antelope but the leader ignored his words. Ritai was then shot by one of the poachers..
Sadly, are this group of poachers continued their hunting for the antelope? Doing illegal way,is obviously wrong.Who would volunteer to hunt poachers in this forbidding part of the world? Is it worth it? I know what Ritai would say, but I don't know that Ritai is altogether a sane man. This is an evocative, visually resplendent film, however, with images and ideas that linger in one's mind long after the movie is over.
That`s all for now. :)
