Survey on how to reduce greenhouse gases through Electricity use at UBD

Yesterday, September 15, at our very own building, Faculty of Arts and Social Science. We were all assigned to do work concerned about students of UBD in order to experience how much electricity is being used for good and also bad. We were all divided into different groups, two person per group. My partner for this activity is Aziman.

So we started this activity approximately at 8.30am and began to research on the second floor which include lecturer`s staffs, hall and corridor. We checked every areas and rooms and found evidence that eventually leads to Global warming. Generally speaking, as we all know, Brunei Darussalam use burning of fuels in the generator to obtain or produce the electricity. Logically, in order to produce more electricity, what is required? ofcourse lots of burning fuels. This later will increase the global warming which warms our earth and thicken the ozone layer which is very dengerous!

Here are some of the pictures which showed the evidence that leads to global warming. In this picture, showed the lights are on in the all and also on the left side of the wall showing signs on saving electricity. We must value the limited resources of our own country, but why the lights are still open? So learn how to appreciate environment.
Aziman taking picture of leaking air conditioner pipeline in AHU room. This is very dengerous due to liquids may rise to the atmosphere which may lead to global warming.

Another picture of pipline breach in addition of lights open in this room (AHU)

Light must be switched off when not needed.

Spot some of the evidence that lead to greenhouse effect. Leaking air-conditioner deteriorated and left untreated.

From our survey, there are 26 rooms showed lights are still open and with people in their rooms. However some rooms also spotted lights to be left open without people approximately 31 rooms. This is not good enough to conserve our electricity. Who`s going to responsible for this? Eventhough we live in a blessed country, but try to learn and appreciate our environment. Moreover, computers are also found to be left opened in the 1st and 2nd floor which wasted so much electricity. On the other hand, groundfloor is well exceptional due to lecture everyday.

STEPS TO REDUCE ELECTRICITY USAGE....

  1. make sure to swith off light when not needed.
  2. closed the computers as it takes a lot of electricity use
  3. leak air conditioner must be well treated before it gets worse.

Last but not least, we also experienced difficulties doing the survey because most of the doors are locked and hardly to see if there are any computers and light opened. Before its getting too late, let us now save the EARTH by saving our electricity. SAY NO TO GLOBAL WARMING! LOVE OUR ENVIRONMENT! :D

Home :)

This picture i have downloaded it from google http://www.elrst.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/home.jpg to show the appearance or intro for this movie,

Home is a 2009 documentary by Yann Arthus-Bertrand. The film is entirely composed of aerial shots of various places around Earth. It shows the diversity of life on Earth and how humanity is threatening the ecological balance of the planet. The movie was released simultaneously on June 5th in cinemas all over the world, on DVD and on YouTube. This movie is a collection of unique aerial footage from over 50 countries, which will try to show the state of the planet in natural and urban areas with the goal of inciting people to act.

By watching this movie, obviously it gives a message,of what we call it as an environmental message and explains how and when life on Earth came about. We learn, for example, that the world is four billion years old, whereas humans are only 200,000 years old. In the relatively short time we have been around, however, we have had more impact than any other species. In the last 50 years alone, the movie says, the Earth has been changed than by all previous generations of humanity in this world. However home impacts directly on the sensibility of anyone who sees it, bringing us to awareness, through emotion initially, in order to change the way we see the world.

Through economic condition which is expanding years after years also affected the environment, such as the clearing of forests, better known as deforestation.Global warming indeed is one of the changes that affect the earth and from my opinion, it can be argued that this effect mainly caused by human activity. We can define global warming when the heat increases rapidly in the atmosphere all over the world and thus results can be observed. the temperature now is more becoming warmer and this led to environmental disasters to occur.
